The Leibniz Lab ‘Systemic Sustainability’ contributed to several sessions at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) 2026.
The Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) jointly hosted the expert panel “The Blue-Green Nexus: Innovations for Smart Water Strategies from Farm to Sea.” The panel addressed the pressing challenge of ensuring global food security under increasing water stress by highlighting practical innovations that enhance water productivity and water quality across agri-food systems worldwide. Drawing on integrated blue and green bioeconomy approaches, the discussion brought together perspectives from science, policy, and practice, showcasing real-world case studies and exploring pathways for translating scientific knowledge into effective governance frameworks, collaborative policies, and actionable tools. These approaches aim to support resilient, water-efficient food systems and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A written contribution to the panel by the Lab’s Steering Group member Raimund Bleischwitz is available at daily27.info:
